Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start the process of bringing a puppy home?

Give us a call! We can answer any of your questions and schedule a time for you to visit if you’d like. We will post lots of photos as the puppies grow so you can get to know them better.

How much does a puppy cost?

The total cost of a puppy is $1200. A deposit of $500 will place a hold on the puppy you choose. The remainder is due at pick up. We accept cash in person, check by mail or Apple Pay.

When are the puppies old enough to come home?

Eight weeks.

Is there a specific training program you use as the puppies grow?

For the first few weeks, even before they have vision and hearing, they are gently exposed to different people, both in the household and out. Still in the whelping box, (a small enclosure that makes sure they stay close to mama) they are handled and introduced to different people.

The next stage, from two to four weeks, is time to let them spend outside and inside, walk on different surfaces, smell new smells, and meet other animals and people while maintaining a fun, safe experience. Letting them explore and develop a healthy curiosity is the goal of weeks four and on. We take little trips in the community, keeping them in a stroller to keep them safe from sicknesses like parvo. This gives them the opportunity to ride in the car and be in totally different environments, like a park or a mall. This is also when they get their first visit to the vet.

By six weeks and after they will learn to be away from their littermates and parents, eat solid food, spend some time alone, and be introduced to staying in a small crate to begin potty training. They will also be given the opportunity to learn the “sit” command, coming when called and walking on a leash. These are all the very beginnings of what you’ll want to continue when they move to your house.

Do you ship puppies? Where do you live?

We do not ship or transport puppies. We live in the mountains about 15 minutes east of Albuquerque, NM.

What is the breed? Are they registered?

The puppies are cocker-schnoodles- half poodle, a quarter cocker, a quarter schnauzer. A designer breed, they are not able to be registered by the AKC. You can find a lot of information online about the different characteristics of the breeds.

Honey is half poodle, half cocker spaniel.
Walter is half poodle, half schnauzer.

We decided to match them because we love their personalities. (Honey is sweet, bouncy and fun. She is very attached to one person. Walter is funny, quirky and calm. He loves to cuddle, has favorite toys and sometimes gets “the zoomies.”) They are both healthy and we think they’re both darn cute. Their non-shedding coat was important as well.

How much will they weigh when they are grown?

Honey and Walter each weigh about 20 pounds.

Are they hypoallergenic?

Although no dog can be guaranteed hypoallergenic, neither parent sheds at all so the puppies should be less likely to cause a reaction to allergies.

Grooming?

People have different opinions on how often a dog needs a bath, brush or haircut. Make sure that no mats start to form in your dog’s coat. Our dogs are inside most of the time so we don’t give baths unless they look dirty. We also like how they look with their coats on the long side so we take them to the groomer about every 3-4 months depending on the season. We have never had a problem with matting.

Is there a health guarantee?

Each puppy will have a vet-check and come with a certificate of health. If the worst happens, though, and your puppy has an undetected health issue within the first six months, your money will be refunded with a letter from the vet stating that the underlying cause was on our end.
